Sacrificing, giving mark start of Lent

"For others, the pancake suppers and Ash Wednesday services today - which mark Lent's start - are more about tradition.
"Eugene Bauman, Louise Bauman's husband, said he enjoys helping the men of St. John's United Church of Christ cook the pancakes, as they have been doing for years, but he usually doesn't sacrifice anything for Lent."
