I hope that you can sense my sarcasm coming out. Sure, I think a little mudslinging can be entertaining, but it is not very Christian. I find it interesting Obama, a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, and McCain, a Southern Baptist, who both made very clear confessions of faith in Jesus Christ recently in a forum held at Saddleback Church, would stoop to mudslinging.

But Obama, a Christian who until recently attended Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, was more revealing about his faith.

Explaining what it meant to him to be a Christian, the Democrat talked of "walking humbly with our God." "I know that I don't walk alone, and I know that if I can get myself out of the way that I can maybe carry out in some small way what he intends," he said.

My concern today is the totally inappropriate (dare I say, evil) use of Christian scriptures and beliefs to generate broad-based fear throughout the electorate ...

Some, if not all, of these statements find their way into the internet distribution system. One widely distributed post has a description of the antichrist that makes this ominous character sound just like Obama, including that he will be a Muslim. Of course, many people don’t seem to notice that the Islamic religion didn’t even come to being until several centuries after the biblical prophecies were written, or the fact that Obama belongs to the United Church of Christ and is not a Muslim at all...

The Rev. Barry W. Lynn, Americans United executive director, said he is offended by the claim that the cross is merely a secular symbol.

“The cross is the preeminent symbol of Christianity,” said Lynn, an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. “For the government to claim that the cross is a secular symbol is deeply offensive and betrays a poor understanding of religion and our Constitution.”

Obama is no Muslim, closet or otherwise. In fact, he is more open than most politicians about his faith, speaking often of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He walked the aisle at Trinity United Church of Christ sixteen years ago. He knelt at the altar on a Sunday morning. He stood and professed Jesus Christ as his lord and savior.

...conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh called Barack Hussein Obama, "Barack Hussein Odumbo." Others began to refer to him as "The Un-Hillary," "Obama the apostate," "Obama Osama," and "Obambi." Still others started accusing him of being a "closet Muslim," even though Senator Obama has been widely quoted discussing his impressive educational background and proclaiming his membership in Chicago’s decidedly non-Muslim United Church of Christ.

"Okay, fine, they argued, so Obama is not a Muslim; fine, Obama is a Christian. But isn’t his particular Southside Chicago church, the Trinity United Church of Christ, really a little bit — wait for it — Too Black? Here Fox argues that Trinity United’s “disavowal of the pursuit of middleclassness” smacks of separatism and early Black Panther rallies."

"But given its statements of principle, does the Senator's membership in this church represent a conflict of interest?

"Speak up, Democrat apologists. A few congressional hearings ago, Democratic senators objected to a nominee for a Federal judgeship, and challenged him on the grounds of his being a practicing Catholic. I watched this on CSPAN, and could not believe what I was hearing and seeing."
